Fall 2014 Denim Trends
These days, the night air necessitates a light jacket and it’s dark by the time we get home from work; fall is here. No doubt about it. It’s not all bad though, because fall fashion is so much more interesting than summer attire. This season, the ever-popular dark wash “skinny jean” takes a back seat (but is still along for the ride) and makes way for some different silhouettes.
Ladies Fall 2014 Denim Trends:
Boyfriend Jeans – by now, you probably already have a pair of these – and if not? Well, it’s time to get a pair – how else are you going to look stylish AND be comfy enough to eat all of those Thanksgiving and Halloween treats that will inevitably be shoveled into your mouth in the next few weeks?
Mom Jeans – yup, mom jeans are IN style. No, you don’t have to be a mom to wear them. For those of you who like the idea, but are a bit afraid to try the trend – we suggest trying out a high-rise skinny in a lighter wash, or in one size larger than you typically wear. This will give the illusion of the trend, but keep it wearable and carry-over-able into subsequent seasons.
Distressed Jeans – yes, they’re back – but they don’t look like the ridiculous jeans from the early 2000s. Focus on the more “natural” looking distressing and whiskering to avoid looking like you found your jeans in a time capsule from 10 years ago.
Fitted Capris – you may have sworn to yourself that you would NEVER, EVER wear them (in general, or again) – but you may change your mind after seeing this season’s take on the Capri. This fall’s Capri is longer and skinnier than the average flood pant, with a little flare at the bottom. They are slim enough to fit into tall boots but look even cuter paired with an ankle-skimming boot that shows off a peek of skin.
Men's Fall 2014 Denim Trends:
Straight Legged or Slightly Tapered – thin as a pin is totally out. Yes, you can still wear a “skinny” jean, but you’d better make sure you’ve got a little room in the thigh to even things out. You want to look slim and tailored, but you also want to leave a little room for the imagination.
Rugged, Worn-In Looking Denim – don’t be afraid to look a little bit dirty. That is the point here.
Dark Earth Tones (Wine, Khaki) – finally! Totally wearable colored jeans. Just err on the side of neutral and you can get away with pairing these colored jeans with items you already own.
There you have it! Fall denim is here – and we can’t wait to help you find a new pair of jeans!
