Why We Love It: Although the denim appears pure black when new, as it fades through wear and washing, the areas of high friction reveal a brown hue rather than the usual white.
This effect is achieved by first dyeing the warp yarns brown and then rope-dyeing them black, creating a "tea-core" black yarn.
The term "tea-core" may be unfamiliar to those outside of leather circles; it refers to leather that has a brown core with a black finish applied to the surface.
A characteristic of this leather is that, while it initially looks black, the underlying brown is revealed as the black surface wears away through friction from use.
Tea-core denim was created by drawing inspiration from this type of tea-core leather.
Additionally, because brown yarns are used for the weft, the fabric possesses a rich, deep color and creates a stylish accent when the cuffs are rolled up.
