Why We Love It:

Kanoko (literally "fawn pattern") refers to the young deer, an animal born in summer and long celebrated in Japanese poetry as a seasonal symbol of the season. Both charming and dignified, deer have been revered in Japan for centuries as sacred messengers of the gods.

The inspiration behind this fabric comes from a rare brown denim that was briefly adopted for military use in the early 19th century. During a period of material shortages, logwood—a natural plant-based dye—was temporarily used as an alternative to the limited supply of indigo, giving rise to brown-colored denim.

For this fabric, Samurai Jeans selected Suren dye, a colorfast dye also used in vintage military garments. Unlike indigo, it does not dramatically change color due to weathering or environmental exposure. Instead, it fades naturally into softer tones within the same color family. While the aging process is more subtle than that of traditional indigo denim, wear and abrasion will gradually create distinctive fades and character marks.

The yarn is made from 100% Texas cotton slub yarn, woven with natural nep texture into a rugged 15oz denim fabric.

Orders shipping to USA

Orders being shipped to the United States are not exempt from "tariffs", however, the "de minimis exemption" allows for orders under $800.00 USD to enter the United States tax & duty free.

The current administration in the United States is attempting to remove the "de minimis exemption", which if successful, would result in our US based customers paying a 25% tariff, sales tax, and brokerage.

No word yet on when this change may take place. All fees related to tariffs, duties, and brokerage are the responsibility of the customer.

We offer shipping through Canada Post, UPS, FedEx, and Purolator. Please allow 2 to 3 business days for order processing. Orders that require hemming may take an additional 2 to 3 days. For in-store pickup, verify stock availability under the 'find in store' tab. If stock needs to be transferred between stores, please note that processing will take an extra 7 business days.

Shipping costs for Canada are $22, with free shipping on orders over $400. Express shipping is available for $31. In the United States, regular shipping is $30, while express shipping is $40. For all orders in Alaska and Hawaii, a flat rate of $50 USD applies.
