“Made in China” has its nefarious pop culture reputation, but Doublewood Denim is trying to break that stereotype.

Female denim designers have been stepping it up in the past ten years; heading design at powerhouses like Guess, Paige, Citizens of Humanity, and MiH. With the introduction of elastin, the man’s world of workwear blew away and it was obvious that there was a hole that female designers have been more than happy to fill. Why?

Introducing Doublewood Denim, a San Francisco based denim brand with a strong focus in minimal, but intricate details. Doublewood Denim was co-founded by Ontario-born, Hong Kong/Vancouver-raised, San Francisco transplant and self proclaimed denimhead, Jeffrey Lee and his two childhood friends in Fall of 2013. The three friends; an Architect, Engineer and a Marketing Analyst (now based in San Francisco) have a deep-rooted belief in rational functionality and sustainable aesthetics, which undoubtedly carries over to the denim they produce. Raw selvedge denim is a blank canvas; it is up to each individual to carve a distinct look through everyday wear and tear. The Doublewood team is obsessed with this unique fine-aging process, and it was this exact notion that drove them to craft a pair of jeans that was genuinely imbued with such ideals. It’s time for the denim jacket to come back into full force as our outer layer of choice before the vortex of cold awful (AKA puffy jackets that make people look like a bag of packing peanuts). As of late, many of our customers have been coming into the shop looking for the perfect one, (and by denim jacket, we’re talking about the 20th century ‘trucker’ style made popular by Levi’s and the Marlboro Man – you know: boxy, raw or stonewashed, button-up, welt/side pockets and chest pockets); it is pretty much a failsafe wardrobe piece. The biggest men’s denim “trend” we are seeing this spring is the slim-straight leg, in either a raw, or subtly washed jean. This means, that if you haven’t updated your denim wardrobe in a while, buying one of this season’s classic, slim-straight jeans will keep you on trend now, and also for seasons to come. You really can’t go wrong here. A new arrival in the women’s department for 2012 from our friends at Courtshop is in-store in Vancouver. Two styles were included, both in tonal indigo shades and offering simple design as per the brand’s aesthetic. 10 oz. premium stretch denim is blended with classic 5-pocket styling for this release. Option one consists of the ‘High Waist Skinny’ fit in a Celine colourway, while option two is rounded out by the ‘High Waist Relaxed’ fit in a Blue Overdye.
