For the Ladies: Meet My Casual ‘Boyfriend’ Fit

My ‘boyfriend’ jeans are more than willing to spend the entire day with me doing the things I like. In fact, after a day of running around the city or sitting in the park, they look and feel better because of it. Slouchy, comfy, yet flattering ‘boyfriends’ can become a little bit of a quest to find. Well, you don’t have to wait your whole life for that cosmic denim love. Anyone can meet the perfect fit, as long as you know what to look for: Low rise A longer yoke in the back Bigger and/or lower back pockets A slim, tapered leg Fading or distressing Our advice? Take advantage of a trend There are a lot of brands out there that have adapted ‘boyfriends’ just for you. WE RECOMMEND: Levi’s Made & Crafted : Marker               Tellason : Bird               Baldwin : Andi               Have some unisex When it comes to “who wears what”, Nudie and APC are two brands that remain neutral. Both have raw (unwashed) options, which allow you to work them in yourself! We recommend: Nudie: Thin Finn […]

Not a “Jean Zine”

dutil. is devoted to denim – our Vancouver and Toronto locations are veritable shrines to the fabric in its various incarnations. However, our interests do not end there; in the past year our storefronts have been transformed into a music venue for the launch of the dutil.Records label, and an art gallery for the First Annual Denim + Art Event. Creativity flows through the dutil. team, not unlike another of our passions: beer. This time we’ve collaborated with local artists, writers and beer enthusiasts to compile our first ever zine. We’ll be distributing them from both of our stores and around the city this summer.(I think it pairs well with a heffeweizen and a lemon wedge on a sunny patio.) Don’t forget to pick one up and spread the word! Cheers! For more information email zine@dutildenim.com .

Men’s Spring Denim 2014

The biggest men’s denim “trend” we are seeing this spring is the slim-straight leg, in either a raw, or subtly washed jean. This means, that if you haven’t updated your denim wardrobe in a while, buying one of this season’s classic, slim-straight jeans will keep you on trend now, and also for seasons to come. You really can’t go wrong here. The Baldwin Henley in Travis (pictured below) is the perfect amount of wash, while the Samuel by Filippa K (second photo) is a great raw, stretch jean for those who crave comfort and style.                                 While the fit remains anchored in the realm of the slim-straight and the trend towards coloured denim is still quite prevalent, this season’s look is more subtle – leave the brights at home and lean toward more muted, natural tones like these khaki green chinos from Naked & Famous.                   For those seeking a bolder look, waxed denim is back in a big way. Thankfully, Nudie brought back their infamous black waxed Thin Finns just in time for the resurrection of […]
