What’s the Deal with Jean Jackets?

It’s time for the denim jacket to come back into full force as our outer layer of choice before the vortex of cold awful (AKA puffy jackets that make people look like a bag of packing peanuts). As of late, many of our customers have been coming into the shop looking for the perfect one, (and by denim jacket, we’re talking about the 20th century ‘trucker’ style made popular by Levi’s and the Marlboro Man – you know: boxy, raw or stonewashed, button-up, welt/side pockets and chest pockets); it is pretty much a failsafe wardrobe piece. Why, you may ask? For one, it’s heavy enough to protect against that nip of wind, but still light enough for the day. This is obvious. So apart from this, there is no real reason why we should be drawn to this jacket, right? Technically, if we’re being really honest, the jean jacket is not THAT cute. Who even uses chest pockets? And to do up all those buttons every day is like, “OKAY, SURE”. Nevertheless, this very curious denim piece is even more curiously never going out of style. Maybe its lack of cute or cool is the appeal – it’s almost boring! This makes […]

Denim Icons: New LVC at dutil. Vancouver

No doubt about it, Levi’s is an iconic brand. We like to pay homage to the icons of denim, and thus, are proud to announce that we are carrying the LVC (Levi’s Vintage Clothing) 1960’s 606 jean for ladies, and the 1947 shrink-to-fit 501 jean for gentlemen this Fall 2014. For those ladies with a penchant for quality and vintage inspired looks, the 606 just might be the perfect jean. The 606 was originally created in the 1960s as a more stylish and affordable jean for ladies. In many circles, this jean was considered the first “skinny jean” available to women. The LVC 606 jean is made of 100% pre-shrunk cotton, so you can work them in yourself without relying on stretch fibres to make them comfy (a longer, but more rewarding process). Cotton tends to last longer, and repair better, so you can count on these for years to come. And for gentlemen who have already conquered the sanforized raw jean – we are offering perhaps the world’s most famous denim fit: the 501 – but this time, in a shrink-to-fit denim. There are many different “recipes” for shrinking your denim, but we suggest the sure bet way: taking a bath while […]

Courtshop at dutil.

This Spring/Summer season, we brought in quite a few options for women from our friends at Courtshop. We know that Summer doesn’t normally invoke the desire to buy a pair of jeans (although it should, SS14 denim is looking right!) but shorts, or overalls? A light jacket for cooler days? We’ll take one of each please! Courtshop hails from New York, and they are known for using staple fits that are amped up with interesting details – usually in the form of unusual seaming. Below are a few examples of items made from denim (and chambray) that are summer worthy in all regards. We like them, and we know you will too!

IDC x Vancity® Originals Brand x Hopewell Works Ltd. Hat Launch Party Recap

Last Thursday we celebrated the launch of the limited edition suede and leather, hidden-pocket, three-way collaboration cap by IDC, Vancity® Originals, and Hopewell Works Ltd. The event was hosted by the three brands at the Hopewell Works Ltd. workshop in East Vancouver. Upon walking into the workshop, there was a warm, relaxed vibe – the crowd was buzzing and the space encouraged mingling (with the help of free Jameson whiskey of course!). But, what made the event great was the amalgamation of friends, family and supporters from the three different brands. Collaborations allow multiple mindsets to come together to create something that may have not otherwise come to fruition, and the diverse group of people attending the party echoed that idea in their presence. We want to thank everyone who attended the party in support of IDC, Vancity® Originals Brand and Hopewell Works. A special thanks to Jameson for providing the social lubricant, and Jarami from Hopewell Works Ltd. for lending us his space for the event.
