John Casablanca’s “Wish You Were Here” Fashion Show 2010 Uses Denim from dutil.!

This year, Vancouver Fashion Week included the John Casablanca grand finale student fashion show dubbed “Wish You Were Here” (held November 4th, 2010). We are thankful to  have been invited to the show to see how the students styled the pieces we lent them – we were totally amazed by what they had put together!  The models looked great and the energy of the show was very positive. Here are a couple of photos from the show (courtesy of the John Casablanca’s Facebook page): Wish You Were Here Fashion Show 2010 (featuring denim from dutil.!) Thanks again, JC!

Nudie’s “HEEBEEGEEBEES X NUDIES Costume Contest” Awards Free Jeans to the Winners and dutil. Provides the Denim!

This year Halloween fell on a Sunday night, so like the good little partiers we are, most of us decided to do it right on Saturday the 30th. There was no better way to end a month of art and music at Chapel Arts than the HEEBEEGEEBEES Costume Party (Presented by BeatRoute Magazine, WinnieCooper.net, 101.9 CiTR, Red Bull, Steam Whistle, VancouverIsAwesome.com, Nudie Jeans, No More Strangers & ClubZone.com). Everyone was encouraged to dress up, as there would be a prize awarded to the best costume. The best of the best ended up being the ghastly “conjoined” twins Chelsea LaRocque and Chelsea Bastedo (shown below). To celebrate, Nudie Jeans Co. has conjoined (ha-ha) with dutil. to provide the “twins” with the best “Best Costume” prize; free Nudies! If you missed the party check here for the rest of the photos! Everyone looked pretty amazing.

Aging Gracefully (albeit quickly)

It is amazing how a pair of jeans can transform over time. This particular pair looks as though it has been through the ringer a few times over the last few years. The truth of the matter is that they have only been worn for about 7 months (at least that’s what the owner told us). We still find it hard to believe that a mere 7 months could turn a brand new pair of jeans into something that looks like this, but we will suspend our disbelief and admire them for what they are; truly incredible. What do you guys think?

To Wax Aesthetic: Nudie’s Fall/Winter 2010/2011 “Injection Collection” at dutil.

If you’ve been looking for a denim statement piece, look no further than Vancouver’s favourite denim shop. Nudie’s Fall/Winter 2010/2011 “Injection Collection” boasts some super slick pieces including an indigo coloured, black coated Thin Finn. The indigo shows through the distressed wax coating, and the colour will become more pronounced with wear. Waxed denim tends to do better if you don’t wash it, but if you must, a cold water rinse inside-out should do the trick. Remember to stay away from the dryer! These jeans are limited edition and sizes sell out quickly, so come pick them up at dutil. before it’s too late!

Wearing It Well

This guy lives in his jeans. Worn for 1.5 years and never washed, they are so decrepit they look like they could fall off of his body – in a good way. When we buy a brand new pair of raw denim jeans, we can only dream that they will one day look like these do. Not only have they molded perfectly to his body in both fit and colour, the wearer has molded them perfectly to his lifestyle with the addition of some special do-it-yourself details. It is a joyous occasion when someone walks into the store wearing something (especially denim) that is such an integral part of their personality.

Baby’s First Bath

The best thing about raw denim is that you can customize it in so many different ways. From the number of times you wear your jeans before washing them, to the way you finally decide to wash them; the choices are endless. We were lucky enough to receive some photos from someone who decided to saltwater wash his jeans. Saltwater rinsing is just one of the many ways you can care for your raw denim. A certain favourite company of ours suggests to wait as long as you possibly can before doing the saltwater rinse. This ensures that the denim fabric and indigo dye will be adequately broken-in before “baby’s first bath”. The second step to the saltwater rinse, is to rub your denim in the sand and re-rinse in the ocean. Finally, in order to avoid crunchy jeans and itchy skin, a freshwater rinse is suggested. dutil. encourages you to peruse the internet and denim magazines to find a cleansing method that suits your ambition, and we’d love to see what you come up with!

We Like it Raw

We had a very special client come in the other day. He was one of those dedicated-to-raw kind of guys who was wearing a pair of jeans he had owned and worn religiously for 3 years. They were so beautiful that angels sang when he walked into the shop. He told me that over the 3 years he had been wearing them, they had been “sneaky washed” only once when he took them to get repaired. The tailor dry-cleaned them without asking, and they were returned to him a lot lighter than they were previous to the repair. In the end, this accidental cleansing did not effect how amazing these jeans look.  For your visual pleasure, I took some photos of them. See for yourself what 3 years of dedication to raw denim can do for you, and then come check out our huge selection of raw at dutil. so you can start your own denim-based art project.

Fall Denim Teaser

It’s the time of year where, as much as we hate to admit it, summer is coming to an end. The days are still hot and the nights temperate, but it’s hard to say for how long. It’s not all bad news though; the end of summer also means new styles, washes and brands are making their way into dutil., which is something to be excited about. To celebrate the seasonal transition, we thought it would be nice to show you guys some of our new Acnes. Our models were inspired by the garden and frolicked around in the foliage on their own accord as I snapped a few shots. Acne is a brand from Stockholm, Sweden which started in 1996. The name is an acronym that stands for “ambition to create novel expressions”.  Acne wanted to create a collection that was innovative and totally wearable, any day (or night) of the week. Here, our male model wears the “Max” in “Raw”, which retails for $248.00 CAD at our store. The jean is likely to stretch about a full-size with wear, as it is a raw jean, so as per usual, buy them snug. Furthermore, the jean will end up […]
